2012 is fast approaching and and with the new year comes new resolutions, new promises of self-discipline and own personal goals. A dental makeover can be a big part of that resolution and can help to transform your teeth into a smile to show off and be proud of.
Dental makeovers are unique in that they can help to improve many areas of your smile, not just the way they look aesthetically, but also how they function. A fully functioning and cosmetically appealing set of teeth can help to change the way you look for the better, which can have a massive impact on your confidence as a result.
At the Red Sky at The Fountain Health Clinic, Dr Pav Khaira is highly skilled in cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry procedures. Using his expertise, Pav can determine the best course of action to help you achieve the desired results from the dental work. Dental implants or a dental bridge can be chosen to help repair missing teeth. Meanwhile for some patients, the emphasis may be on function over aesthetics, for example, a set of working teeth, rather than an aesthetically pleasing smile- although the two are usually not mutually exclusive.
Each aspect of a dental makeover has unique benefits too. There are a few choices – dental implants, dental bridges or porcelain veneers and a patient may want to choose which one is most suitable for them, whilst in consultation with Pav.
Dental bridges are a set of false teeth which are fixed onto the neighbouring teeth to replace missing teeth. Dental bridges may often be required where one or more teeth are missing which has an effect on your appearance, where the bite is affected and adjacent teeth lean into the space and alter the upper and lower teeth bite together. They may also be necessary where teeth are also affecting your speech or the shape of your face, or where gum disease can be accumulated because of food getting into the gaps. There are three main types of bridge and they are usually made from porcelain. The advantage is that they are natural, require only two appointments with the dentist and have a good life period, usually lasting for 10-15 years.
Dental implants are an artificial replacement for the root section of the tooth. Dental implants are ideal for replacing missing teeth. The titanium anchor is lodged into the jawbone socket (after pre-drilling) onto which a crown, bridge or denture can be securely fitted. Dental implants can help to give your smile better aesthetics, for as well as being long lasting and durable, they can improve function and dental hygiene, along with reducing bone loss.
Veneers are laminates or shells which are usually wafer thin and tooth coloured. They are designed to improve the shape and appearance of teeth and are cemented onto the surface of the tooth. Veneers are ideal for fixing stained or damaged teeth, gaps or tooth crookedness. Porcelain veneers provide a strong and durable alternative to cosmetic bonding, whilst looking natural and translucent in appearance.
