The Dental Implant Procedure

To place dental implants, the dentist first inserts a small titanium post in the patient's jawbone, making sure that it seats tightly. Due to the unique properties of titanium, over a period of weeks or months the jawbone will actually bond to the metal post in a process called ossification. After ossification has firmly fixed the dental implant's titanium post within the jaw, the dentist can attach a custom-made ceramic tooth to the post, effectively creating a new, permanent tooth. Though a few months are typically necessary to complete the process of placing dental implants, most of our patients are willing to wait for the permanence and quality of our implants.
