What you need to know about dental implants

December 9, 2012

More and more people are coming to realise that dental implants are often one of the best ways to replace missing teeth.

There are a number of things you need to know once you’ve decided to have implants placed.

Not all implants are created equally

There are a large number of dental implant companies, and a few are recognised for their excellence and long standing history.  Implant companies come and go and the issue becomes if you have a cheap implant placed, the company may not be around later in your life in case anything goes wrong.

I don’t believe in cutting corners, I’d be angry if someone did that to me for the sake of profit so I would never do it to you.  We use Nobel Biocare, one of the biggest and most respected implant companies around.  Their commitment to research and support is exceptional and Nobel Biocare have results spanning decades.  They are excellent at what they do and many smaller companies try to copy their implants

Begin with the end in mind

Implants are a means to an end.  They are a way to replace missing teeth and as such the final replacement needs to be considered FIRST.  We will always listen to what you want to achieve and plan to that.  If we place an implant simply where the bone is, it may not be possible to place your new tooth afterwards, believe it or not I see this all the time!

By planning backwards, we can ensure we give you the very best results we possibly can

It’s not just the implants

Implants are a part of the equation.  True implant dentistry involves ensuring the final result not only functions well, but looks good too.  This can involve altering and improving gum levels to give beautiful results.  If we don’t address all aspects, you may end up with a tooth which functions but doesn’t look pleasing to the eye!

I love helping people achieve their goals, and taking into consideration all aspects is challenging and fun.

Implant maintenance

Implants are incredibly successful, in fact when placed correctly they are one of the longest lasting things we can do in dentistry.  A key to success is maintenance long term.  With regular hygiene visits and home care, long term studies prove a 92% success rate over a 25 year period.  That’s huge!
