Highest quality cosmetic and general dentistry – Selby, Goole, Wakefield and Howden, Yorkshire

I’m a great believer in quality. That is the reason I’ve been across to the States so many times so that I can learn from the very best dentists in the world. The one thing they ALL have in common is that none of them compromise on quality.

I often get asked why I don’t run my practice in a large city. That’s because I’m happy where I am! I’ve worked in big city cosmetic practices and have been unimpressed, I know the quality of the services I provide and that’s why I’m happy where I am.

From the latest diagnostic tools, importing the best materials in the world or learning cutting edge techniques, all of these are important for delivery of quality.

I really enjoy looking after those who understand quality and want excellent and long term results.

The truth about no preparation and minimal preparation veneers – The marketing unspun

Here’s what everyone (including the large companies that produce no preparation veneers) market:

No injections

No removal of painful tooth structure

They can be made in just 2 visits

They work like “instant braces”

They don’t chip or crack

They are made from a new “stronger” porcelain and can be made very thin

The truth is that just about everything written here is outright marketing spin and just plain wrong. Another misleading term is minimal preparation veneers, ALL veneers should be minimally prepared!

Think about it for a moment, who would deliberately heavy handedly prepare teeth for veneers? It just doesn’t make sense. Unless your marketing tactics are based upon scaremongering.

Let me tell you the TRUTH about veneers. They absolutely positively should not be used to straighten teeth instead of braces. If you have this done, the failure rate over a 5 year period massively increases due to the amount of tooth reduction required.

Veneer preparations should also be so conservative that you really shouldn’t need injections anyway. 95% of my veneer preparations are done without anaesthetic and my clients feel NOTHING. Furthermore, all veneers can be made in 2 visits! However, just because something CAN be done does not mean it SHOULD be done. Veneers need to be “test driven” to assess cosmetics, mechanics, function and phonetics, not possible if you just slap them in place 10 days later without temporary veneers!

All veneers have the potential to crack, just as natural teeth have the exact same risk. The porcelain is “strong” enough to be made 0.3mm thick, this is how many companies claim they can offer no preparation solutions. I regularly make veneers this thin, it’s about technique and skill of your treating dentist and his or her technician. There is a place for no preparation veneers but they are grossly overused.

I am happy for anyone to mark my words now, as in years to come when all of the problems start to arise due to cutting corners with veneer work I’ll be saying I told you so!

Now that the truth is known, also know that QUALITY veneer work when done to high standards does last a VERY long time. I love veneer work, but have refused to do it for numerous people who have not heeded my guidance and I will not do damage to someone’s smile.

I hope this offers valuable insight to those considering veneer work

No preparation & Ultra thin veneers – Doncaster, Sheffield & Leeds, Yorkshire

Many no preparation and ultra thin veneers boast the fact that their veneers are 0.3mm thick. They push a lot of marketing to this fact and ensure you that their products are the only ones that can give these results. This is simply not the case!

Veneers planning, preparation and placement is not an easy process. Where necessary, we’ve been able to produce veneers 0.15mm thick, half the thickness of “no preparation veneers”. How I hear you ask? Easy, it’s not so much about the material, it’s the techniques used, the skill of the dentist and technicians involved in the process. No preparation do have their place but they are grossly overused.

Those who opt for the cheap and easy option will pay several times more money in the long run due to poor cosmetics and mechanics.

Much more information will be made available in the near future via my e-book which I am in the process of writing for anyone considering cosmetics – Mechanical bioaesthetics: Beyond cosmetic dentistry

Can I have the Inman Aligner or Six Month Smiles braces if I have veneers?

Yes you can. There is no reason you can’t have bracework if you have veneers. In fact, a very common problem is that veneers have been used where braces would have been the first treatment choice. Incorrect use of veneers when the teeth are not in the right position can cause a big cosmetic problem.

Depending on what tooth movements are required, often we can perform the brace work, either Six Month Smiles, Invisalign or the Inman aligner and not have to replace the veneers at the end of treatment. Of course there are cases when veneer replacement will also be required. We would be more than happy to discuss all options with you and find out how to give you the smile you have wanted.

Fractured Veneers

Yes, it can happen! Veneers are not infallible against chewing forces, and if your teeth are worn and you want them veneering to improve your confidence, you may be at an increased risk of the veneers fracturing. A catch 22 situation indeed!

I’ve had advanced level training from Dr Spear in the US and Dr Gurel from Europe, both of whom are at the very forefront of cosmetics and veneers placement, and in particular, prevention of problems.

Many people have veneers done when they ideally require braces or a combination of braces and veneers. Also with dental tourism on the rise, many veneers are made “cheap”, and to further keep costs down standard materials are used to bond the veneers is place. All of these parameters can potentially increase the risk of veneer fracture.

Having been privileged to some of the world’s very best teachers showing me correct methods and techniques, I am a great believer to undertake work to the very highest standards and not to cut corners, therefore greatly enhancing cosmetic outcome and prolonging the life of your beautiful smile.

One thing I promise you is that I genuinely care about your dental health and will provide you with treatment options that are in your interest long term.

If you have fractured veneers, call us to come in for a chat and tell us what’s gone wrong, and we will help guide you in the right direction for long term success

Are no preparation veneers any good and am I suitable for them?

“I’ve been told veneer preparations are painful, can I have no prep veneers?”

You’ve been told wrong! VERY wrong! Allow me to lay to rest some spin about veneers.

Veneers do not require a “substantial” amount of tooth preparation, and 95% of cases are prepared without anaesthetic and NO pain. This lie has been put around by some very large companies who want people to believe that veneer preparation is painful. I have a HUGE number of patients who have had veneers prepared completely painlessly.

If a substantial amount of tooth is removal is required, you were not really suitable for veneers to start with.

Another totally incorrect statement is that everyone is suitable for no prep veneers. I do use no prep veneers, but not everyone is suitable for them. The absolute key for all cosmetic cases is exceptional planning and execution of technique whilst using the best materials and technicians available. Many no prep veneer companies claim the reason they can be no prep is because thier porcelain is “very thin”, very often quoting that their veneers can be 0.3mm thin. Well allow me to tell you that this is not thin. I have used world class technicians and together we have produced veneers 0.15mm thin, half the thickness of no prep veneers!

Another problem with no prep veneers is that they are not reversible, the bonding protocol is not reversible, and in this sense they are exactly the same as other veneers.

Another common misconception is that no prep veneers look as good as the veneers we produce at Red Sky Dental Spa, this simply is not true. As the technicians do not have any room to work with the porcelain, the veneers look false and unnatural. Not a problem if you like the false look!

Technicians require 0.5mm of room in order to produce natural results. The technique I use was taught to me by the world’s best dentists in porcelain veneers and results in tooth preparation so minimal that you probably wouldn’t even see the preparations. In fact, many no prep veneers also require “a little preparation”

A further problem with no preparation veneers is that the margins of the veneers cannot be hidden, and they do pick up staining and decay. This results in no preparation veneers to be replaced much more frequently due to poor cosmetics and decay around the margins. The majority of corrective cosmetics I undertake at Red Sky Dental Spa is either due to no preparation veneers or due to dental tourism

You can rest assured that we will only utilise the best techniques (including no preparation where appropriate) to provide you with outstanding, confidence boosting results which will last a long time

Smile Transformations With Veneer Cosmetics

In just a few weeks, you can have the smile you’ve always wanted through veneer cosmetics at our practice in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, near Sheffield. Although not the best option for all of our patients, porcelain veneers can often be used to achieve the desired results. I’m amazed at the difference porcelain veneers can make in a person’s smile, whether we place a single veneer or several. We can even perform an entire smile makeover through veneer cosmetics involving the placement of porcelain veneers on many or all of a patient’s visible teeth.

Porcelain veneers are an extremely versatile cosmetic option as they can be used to conceal many different types of dental imperfections. We can make a tooth appear longer or wider just by adjusting the size and shape of the veneer, or brighten a smile by adjusting the color of the porcelain we use.

Not everyone needs orthodontics, such as Invisalign® or the Inman Aligner™, to achieve a straighter smile. For some patients who have very minor spaces or misalignments, we can use veneers to achieve the desired result.

Although professional teeth whitening works for most people, in some cases a tooth is so deeply stained that the whitening procedure alone will not achieve the desired result. In such a case, a veneer can be placed on the tooth to cover the discoloration. As an added benefit, the porcelain is stain resistant so discolorations will not occur in the future.

When designing and planning a veneer cosmetic case, I carefully analyze the relationship of the surrounding teeth to the tooth or teeth that will receive the veneer(s). I also work closely with the technicians at a local dental laboratory to ensure that each veneer they craft for me are made to my exact specifications for an optimal result.

If you are interested in veneer cosmetics, schedule a consultation at our practice in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, near Sheffield. I can help you decide if porcelain veneers or another cosmetic option is the right choice for you.

Advanced Cosmetics

I’ve studied with some dentists from the U.S. who are not only exceptional at what they do, but passionate about what they teach and ensuring that we follow correct principles for excellent results.

Beautiful and natural results are not about veneering every tooth visible in the smile, although that can be the treatment option!  It is about correctly diagnosing the problems and using a deep understanding to achieve the desired results.  This may include a range of treatment from veneers, crowns, whitening to braced or a combination of all of them.

I have many clients ask me about having cosmetic dentistry but do not want to have one of the treatment options I have described above.  This can seriously limit the outcome.  We are here to listen and guide you into quality work without doing things to limit the outcome or seriously damage your teeth.

The smile makeover shows often show veneers and crowns which are done within a few weeks.  This can be possible but it also may store problems for the future.  Sometimes we need to slow things down to ensure long term success.

Whoever you go to see for work, ensure they have a deep understanding and passion for what they do.  Look for quality and please be patient to achieve results that are not only natural but also last a long time

Veneers, crowns, gum recontouring, Invisalign and the Inman aligner are all tools we have which we can use to give you the smile you have always wanted

Advanced Cosmetics

Having just completed several extensive smile makeovers, the change in confidence that I see is extremely satisfying.  I have many clients ask for cosmetics but are looking to have it done cheap.  Fortunately, they don’t end up coming to see me.  The clients who come to see me appreciate that I always do my very best for them.  It is very easy to do “cosmetic dentistry” cheap, but it looks awful and does not last long.  My clients are pleasantly surprised at how affordable treatement can be with our financial options.

The absolute key for me is to take my time to do things well.  Success comes without skipping steps, without compromising and with genuine care for my clients.

I’ve just returned from a training seminar in the US, and will be going again several times this year.  The advanced level training had a secondary message which was repeated time and time again.  This message was to never compromise on quality of work.

Always take time to see examples of work your dentist has done.  Also remember that it is far better to have things done well and once, rather than poorly and several times.  I promise all my clients I will look after them the way I would want to be looked after myself.  My passion is boosting people’s confidence with the skills I have learnt.

I am more than happy for you to come in for a complimentary consultation with our treatment coordinator to see what we are all about.

Hope to see you soon
