Can veneers be used to straighten teeth?
I often get asked if veneers can be used to straighten teeth. The answer is yes, but it’s not a good idea!
Veneers are ONLY suitable for people with straight teeth. Period. Using veneers instead of braces will cause them to fail much more quickly.
Remember me saying this now, as in years to come when people are having their veneers replaced I’ll be standing up and proclaiming I’ve been saying this for years; “Sometimes, expediency can be the enemy of quality.”
For those not interested in quality, feel free to do what you want. Those of you reading who want a good, long lasting and healthy result keep reading.
It is possible to straighten your teeth with braces, for cosmetic purposes in 6 months if not sooner.
This is the whole idea behind cosmetic braces. Where appropriate, it may even be possible to straighten your teeth in 3-4 months. Even severe cases can have massive cosmetic improvements in 8 months instead of the usual 2 years or more. One of my favourite systems at the moment is 6 Month Smiles. These braces offer a very fast and cost effective way to gain the smile you want and to boost your confidence.
Someone made me laugh the other day when they called me the “Godfather of Fast Braces and Cosmetics”, very flattering! I urge anyone who wants to better their smile to look at braces. Veneers should only be used when your teeth are misshapen, not crooked.
